gifts of neurodynamic breathwork

  • Healing

Healing of the psyche may happen as we let go, trust and surrender to the process of Breathwork. Our emotional blocks and trauma can process through leaving us free and at peace.

  • self exploration

When we fully immerse in the present moment and connect with our innate intelligence, profound insights about our own nature can be accessed.

  • connection to source

Accessing the deepest parts of ourselves can open up the doorway to seeing our oneness and cultivate our connection to the divine, God, Spirit or whatever we perceive as source of creation.

What is Neurodynamic breathwork

NeuroDynamic Breathwork (NDB) is a powerful self-exploration, healing and self-empowerment modality developed by Michael Stone in 2018 in California.

Michael used his extensive breathwork experience and scientific background to realize his vision of making breathwork accessible to everyone. Tens of thousands of people in 120 countries have already participated.

The premise of NDB is that we all have an Inner Guiding Intelligence that we can connect to through deeper, faster breathing while listening to specifically mixed evocative music to take us on a journey of self-discovery and potential healing.

The primary guiding principles of this modality are TRUST and SURRENDER to the process.

You may feel

increased sense of purpose, connection and peace

Science behind breathwork

Around 6 decades of careful observations as well as anecdotal evidence collected by Dr. Stanislav Grof & his wife Christina, who developed Holotropic Breathwork, show a range of positive impact, such as: decrease or recovery from psychological conditions (anxiety, depression, PTSD), physical pain, ability to process and release trauma, mystical experiences, connection to the Universe and much more. Grof has written 28 books and has over 160 published articles on this topic. Grof also co-founded the field of Transpersonal Psychology and coined the term Transpersonal. I highly recommend his books or even just his Podcast interview with Tim Ferris.

Brewerton et al. (2011), shows a powerful evidence of treatment of alcoholism and other addictive substances, many times in individuals with prior failed treatments. Rhinewine and Williams (2007) hypothesized that Holotropic Breathwork can eliminate avoidance behaviors which results in therapeutic progress.

Rhinewine and Williams (2007) also talk about the neurophysiologic and psychologic effects of hyperventilation. Hyperventilation decreases CO2 which in turn increases O2 and the alkalinity of blood. This is what produces symptoms of dizziness, palpitations, tingling/numbness, and in some cases, tetany. They may be seen by participants as a threat to functioning, but are completely benign and resolve on their own.

As for other physiological effects, evidence recently showed that Breathwork can increase the HRV, or heart rate variability. HRV means a beat-to-beat variability in heart rhythm and is regulated by the autonomic nervous system. Higher HRV typically means better parasympathetic (rest and digest) control and cardiovascular health. Lower HRV has the opposite effect (Cervantes & Puente, 2014).

FAQs

What happens in NDB session?

NeuroDynamic Breathwork can be done in person on online. I offer private 1:1 sessions and semi-private (2:1) in person sessions and private or large group sessions online. The entire session lasts approximately 2 hours with 30 minutes prep, 60 minutes of music & breathing, and 30 minutes of sharing and integration.

What do i need for my session?

Wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing (joggers and a t-shirt), eat lightly before sessions, remove jewelry, bring water, lip balm, and tissues. I also recommend buying an eye mask (Mindfold works best).

CAN I BREATHE WITH A PARTNER/FRIEND?

Yes, but it is imperative to consider a few things. If this is your first time, and you are in an intimate or a close relationship, it may be difficult for one or both of you to stay in your process if your partner is going through a difficult experience and is e.g. crying. Ask yourself: ‘Will I be able to stay in my process if my partner is crying, vigorously moving etc.’ ‘Will I be able to fully express myself with my partner next to me?’. Sometimes it may be better to breathe in separate rooms or only once you’ve done breathwork separately on several occasions.

What can i expect from the session?

Let yourself be surprised and let go of expectations. You may experience a full range of emotions, but you may also just have a profoundly deep and restful session. Experiences will differ person to person as well as session to session. You will receive from the session what you need on a given day. And sometimes that may just be ‘nothing’. Our IGI (Inner Guiding Intelligence) will bring up whatever needs to be brought up for processing at the right time. Some people drop in fast and some not so easy, it is all part of the journey of self discovery. Trust the process!

Who should consider breathwork?

Anyone who is curious about what lies beneath the day to day ego mind chatter and is open to receive what is presented in the session.

can anyone do breathwork?

Most people can, but please check my list of contraindications or reach out to me directly. People under 18 need a parental consent. Pregnancy is an absolute contraindication.
